I came here with my boyfriend and friend for a late night this past weekend and it's safe to say I probably won't be back at this location. While our waitress was super nice, I didn't appreciate my order being screwed up big time. I ordered a Caesar salad for starters & it came out drenched in dressing. Croutons were soggy & dressing was sour. It looked like it was tossed 30 mins prior and was just sitting there in case anyone ordered it. Then, I ordered the "build your own burger" & specifically asked for a veggie patty - it was NOT a veggie burger whatsoever! She even repeated my order to me! I've been a pescetarian for 6 years now and this made me livid. It's just not cool. The waitress did however state that the cook was "in a bad mood" so maybe he didn't care to serve soggy salad and meat to a non-meat eating person? Who knows. Anyways, this place got one star only because the waitress was super apologetic & tried to help. But other than that they suck.

A friend and I came here at night for some breakfast and it was the worst experience ever. Our first server was very nice. She was polite and gave us our drinks and told us to take our time. Then shortly I guess they switch server on us without evening letting us know and the new server did not treat us with respect. She cut off my friend while he was ordering more food. Our waters were never refilled and she gave us the bill a minute after we got our food. She also gave a rude comment about my friend for ordering more food.' So after we ate (food was good btw), we ask the host to split the bill and he gave my friend and I an attitude. He was lucky we tipped them. Overall my experience here was bad. It's the small stuff that keeps your customers happy.

Best looking Denny's I have seen in awhile. Don't come here looking for a 5 star meal 'yall. That being said we order 2 slams for $4 each. Our server was a cute Filipina auntie, she was really attentive & sweet. We also ordered a hot cocoa & oj, totaling $14 on the bill. Denny's is cheap and easy, major stars for this place being clean and updated to look more modern.

I came here with family, and my experience was okay. I personally ordered a Double Cheeseburger, which was huge, but it ended up somewhat overcooked and dry. The server was nice and energetic, at least. I'm not sure about coming back here again next time I'm in San Diego.

I came here this morning for breakfast with my girlfriend. I'm not a huge fan of Denny's as it is, but the grits were watery and tasted weird. I know what you're thinking, "sure, sure I heard of grits, I just actually never seen a grit before." -Cousin Vinny (Joe Pesci). Well this guy never wanted to see a grit again after this morning. I'm not going to even try to guess what was wrong with them. Fortunately, the bacon, eggs, sausage, and hash browns in my "choose you own grand slam" were good. My server was very friendly and on top of everything. The weirdest thing though, he held his hand out in front of my face for a handshake as introduced himself. I'm big on handshakes and eye contact, so I shook his hand. But in all my life, I've never seen a server at a restaurant do that. This is not necessarily a criticism.

Love this Denny's!! I go here often and the service has been consistently great- orders are correct, food is hot and fresh. The location is clean and my coffee is never empty. I can't say the same for other Denny's, but this location is a good one.

The staff was somewhat rude and very pushy. The food wasn't at all worth the price on the menu. Kids ate free and had a military discount. Leaving I could've just walked out without paying no one was at the register. Not enough staff on deck. Worst Experience ever.

Hope you are ready for this review...So between the screaming waiter Ceasar..the complaining waitress Shannon and the venting waitress Karon..ugh I don't know where to begin. So I came in..a girl greeted us..sat us down. .then I over heard Shannon complaining about someone not confronting her about something loud enough for 1/2 the dining area to hear..it got pretty quiet and from what I observe Shannon is just naturally voicetress person..down to earth but there is a time and place to be like that Denny's is not your kitchen hunty. Then I hear Karon complain about customers pissing her off regarding a steak...then Ceasar yelled across the room asking what time of pancakes or bread the customers wanted and they screamed back to confirm his question.. The food was good I have no complaints in that I had the Chicken Salad and seasoned fries...some cinnamon pancakes and the mango strawberry pucker and Caramel coffee. .well they don't have the caramel coffee anymore although it is advertised..but Shannon went out of her way to bring me caramel syrup..so it worked out. This place just needs better professionalism..did I mention they(the 3 I'm discussing) were eating and talking behind the counter were I can see them..hell everybody can see them..I cant deal.

I'm glad Denny's is open 24 hours but it's sad to say, I can never expect a lot from the restaurant. My friends and I came here for a late bite around 2am. I ordered the half sampler with chicken strips and chips and queso. My photo illustrates my disappointment. Half of my chips where soggy because it was drenched in oil, the queso was thick and not at all appetizing and THE CHICKEN STRIPS... 2 small pieces. That's ridiculous. The half order sampler is $6. In my opinion, not worth it. I'll be generous and give 2 STARS because I do like the convenience of Denny's and I'll probably be back. But maybe I'll just stick with my order of hash browns.

I love the customer service here. I can't remember her name, but this waitress was serving my boyfriend and I. She really took care of us, and our needs. She seemed really tired, but she still continued to be friendly and nice. I wrote her a little note thanking her for being a good waitress. Great customer service is always a plus. The food here is pretty good. Well, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not lol. I guess it depends who's cooking it. Last night I got the salmon, and my boyfriend got the T-bone steak. Both of it was on point and delicious. The cheap menu is also worth it too! It's big and still good, but like I said, sometimes it's good. I give the food here a 3 1/2 stars, but since the customer service is always good every time I come here, I give this a 4 star.

This Particular Denny's has been open for quiet sometime. And for the longest time it was one of the best Denny's in SD... But in the past 2 years it really has gone down hill. And I think the management might be to blame. I've been avoiding this place frequently and make the extra effort to go to a different Denny's with friends. But because my friend was low on gas, it was raining and this location is 0.6 miles from me, approximately 2 minute drive we decided to bite the bullet and come here. I've worked in retail for about 7 years and my friend has worked in a restaurant for about 5 1/2 years so we know how places like this should typically run. We weren't expecting high service but definitely were not ready for the service we were about the receive . A Latina curvy woman by the name of Dora was our waitress and boy was she not having a good day. When she took our order she was practically grinding her teeth while angrily taking our order. She didn't even look our direction or face our direction with her body. As if we weren't good enough. When she gave us our waters she threw, literately threw our straws onto our table. I was laughing so hard because of the amazement of horrible service. When she came back around to give us our food she was acting a little nicer but it was because her other waitress friends were speaking to her in Spanish while she was setting the food on our table. I smiled to myself because I'm fluent in Spanish, in fact it's my first language so I could understand all the horrible things she was saying. It wasn't about us but just horrible things about past customers. The food was cold! Not just a little but just totally cold. Like she placed it in the fridge for 5 minutes before serving it to me. I know you let the food sit for a couple seconds so it could cool down but she was distracted from talking to the cook. I gave her no tip and since there is a survey at the bottom of the receipt I'll definitely be taking advantage of that. Dora didn't even close our order at the register but her older boss (manager was on his name tag) and he didn't look like he cared much about life. Avoid coming her unless desperate!

I have ordered food here several times to go and never had a problem. Order has always been correct. Food is decent, nothing spectacular. Staff is friendly. Only thing that I find mildly annoying is I am told 15 minutes, I wait 20 minutes, and my order is still being put together. Other than that, it is usual Denny's.

Our waiter tried but served another table drinks and food that got there 20 minutes after is. Upon paying a girl named Morgan was super rude to us and we were being polite even after having to wait so long. Never coming back again

The food and service is amazing! I got the broccoli and cheese soup and my BF got the fire skillet (from the fire dude from the incredible four) 'twas very delicious! It was super packed and they only had one cook but they were very nice and informed us about it. They gave us a complementary sundae for the wait because we were patient and awesome!!!

Late night and stuck. The staff was quick to get me a hot cup of coffee and help me with directions as I waited for my early trolley home. My server Letitia was a pleasant, addition to the restaurant. She was engaging and astute. - my thanks to the staff for their help and letting me charge my phone while waiting

I have to say this was by far the worst service I've ever had. I came here with my sisters today 7/28/15 at 1am & Cristy was our server. It was bad from the moment we walked it. It was empty & it still took us 20 minutes to get seated. Didn't receive a greeting once we walked in & our appetizer came out after our entree. What sense does that make? The customer service was just awful & she was extremely rude when taking our orders. I wanted hot fudge on my dessert & her response was " do you really want hot fudge on top? It's just going to slide off. " obviously if I asked for it, I would like it on my dessert. She kept yelling what when we asked for something. She kept mumbling under her breath & blaming the cooks for something she forget to put in. You guys are a team, you shouldn't blame someone else for your mistakes. I don't get why she works here if she doesn't like her job which she clearly shows when serving a table. She had a group of four wait for neat 45 minutes before telling them to seat themselves & once they sat themselves, she asked them to move to a different table. Absolutely horrible, NEVER coming back again!! Only giving one star because it's mandatory, if I could give 0 stars I would.

When we got our food it was cold and I had already put ketchup on my eggs. I told the waitress it was cold so she took the plates back and had the cooks put them in the microwave. Never coming back here ever again. I wouldn't even do this in my own house.

Came here for a quick visit for 2 to redeem a birthday grand slam. We weren't expecting much considering past Denny's experiences (ahem, Denny's in PB) but this location was very clean and our server Nick was great. He let us know what qualified on the birthday slam and that anything additional was $0.99. He even let us tack on extra pancakes to take home for the $0.99. We had a nice experience thanks to Nick and would come here again. (Also, it's nothing big but the AC was blasting when we were there. Just a side note for those sensitive to cold - it was hot outside.)

Ugh. Ate here last night and I immediately blew an o ring. Waitress hated her job and complained about every customer that walked in. Food made me sick and service took forever despite being one of about 5 people inside. Never coming back. Don't go here unless you want to be sick.

What happened Denny's? Nice remodel, I agree. But what happened to the old staff? I miss them. I used to be greeted as I walked in. Now I just stand there and have to flag someone down. My waiter gave us the menu and walked off quickly as I was 'mid' talking to him. Leticia is sweet, she brought us water and greeted us. Our waiter came back to take our order sweating profusely. I mean enough to upset my stomach. I'm sorry if it's a medical condition, I don't mean to be rude. But please stop wiping your sleeve (yes, the one you carry food with) on your dripping scalp. God forbid a drop of sweat landed in my food :/ I was too grossed out.. We left without ordering and went to Spring St Denny's (whose service has quote improved since I've been last). Probably won't come back now. That image is engraved in my brain :(

Took 10 minutes to get seated. And 10 minutes later I walked out to have dinner somewhere else due to not 1 waiter or server even aknowleged us sitting there waiting to even take an order for a drink! Bad service. I have been here a few times before in the past and had excellent service. But it n [ longer has that grace. This will be my last visit to this Dennys.

When I saw the advertisement that you can create your own burger for $6.99, I figure it was worth try. The only bummer I ran into was that they would not let me have my burger medium. I had to have to have it medium well: no bueno. Also, premium topping such as bacon, avocado, a fried egg, etc. cost $1.00 extra, but the rest including the cheese did not cost extra. I had my burger on a whole wheat bun. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/H9om… ) Plus, you get a 1 free side for the $6.99 price and I opt. for onions rings. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/H9om… ) The burger was good, but the meat was a tad dry because they had to prepare it medium well. However, the beef did have descent flavor. The ingredients I had with my burger were all fresh. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/H9om… ) I had the burger with Pepper Jack cheese unfortunately did not have that strong pepper flavor it should of had. It tasted like a simple white Monterey Jack. The onion rings were quite good. Their exterior was very crunchy, to the point that the breading flaked off when I bit into them. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/H9om… ) The onions inside were a nice al dente and came steaming hot. The service was okay. I received only one re-fill on my ice tea, but my waitress was friendly enough.

I live by a Denny's which I go to almost everyday, so I figured I would give this one a shot. Well, let's just say this is the worst Denny's I have ever been to. I sat down and nobody greeted me. The manger stopped by my table five minutes later and offered me some coffee which he brought himself. I then waited ten more minutes and no server came to my table. I overheard two service fighting about not wanting to take my table. As angry as I was, I then got up and went to the front to pay for my coffee. The manager felt bad and wanted to give it to me for free, but I still paid. Save your time and go to Marie Callender's right next door. Thee food is better and the service is much better. This took place on 10/19/2014 at 910 pm.

What can I say about Denny's? It's clean, freeway close and has the usual assortment of fare you've come to expect. I had a Slim Slam, a seemingly new menu item while others in our family chose more traditional things like Belgian Waffles, Chicken Fried Steak and pancakes from the kids menu. I guess the highlight was our nice waitress Ana. Swift, caring & helpful, she made the meal go smoothly and was great with the children. Overall a good place to have a meal on-the-go or while in town. Definitely one of the nicer Denny's I have seen, certainly better than my closest one in Green Valley, AZ!!

5 stars for Dennys, I realise this does not compare with Michelin Star restaurants. We got there just in time for the entertainment, a drunk woman loudly telling the homeless vet at the counter about her addict husband the corrupt politician, then harassing the wait staff because she could not get fresh soup at midnight. The manager and wait staff were great, not only in handling her, but everyone in the restaurant. I would've probably thrown her out, let her go somewhere else and make a scene. Food was prepared quickly, served hot and the orders were all correct.

Denny's is one of those restaurants that is great when on a budget or when you need a quick lunch. The service is standard, the food is average, and atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing. The staff is friendly and definitely does not pressure their customers to hurry up. They are knowledgeable of the menu, and give helpful advice. The food comes out in a timely manner, and tastes well-seasoned, well-cooked, and fresh. There isn't much that stands out in terms of greatness or dissatisfaction. All in all, Denny's is nice breakfast chain that is catered towards those who are looking for a quick and/or non-expensive bite.

Walking in the restaurant I over heard a waitress saying she's on break. So I though to myself, late night this is gonna be a little time consuming. (12:20isham) i was solo, & the hostess seated me. So after i was seated, a party of 3 & another single gentlemen was also seated within about a 5min time period. At this point i was only catered to a glass of water (7mins). So I closed my menu & started whistling, then within 30secs the HOSTESS came & took my order. Not to mention the single gentlemen was catered to me before myself.(I was seated first) got my drink & after that things started to go smoothly. I'm guessing because they noticed I had my stop watch on my phone going. Another thing I noticed, the same hostess who seated, took my order, also made my food; food was bomb, pancakes was a little tough. Now going back to the waitress that was on break, she was not my waitress, but I did notice she had a friend or whatever you wanna call it; from me walking in, she payed a significantly amount off attention to her friend, can't really say if it affected her service towards her tables(she was not my waitress) but not so professional I'll say? Overall everything was not bad, I salute the hostess for kicking it into overdrive & Jamie. Coming from Florida where the Denny's was A1 to the west side I don't know man. Anyways teamwork, make the dream work. Only reason I have 3 stars because the staff did go into overdrive, effort was there.

You have been warned. This is by far the worse Denny's I have ever gone to and first time at this location. Slow service, cold food, mixed orders. Right when me and my wife walked in we stood there for almost 10 min until a waitress told us to have a seat until a booth opened up. I can clearly see at least 3 open tables! Wth!? Waited another 10 min then got seated to a wait for it.......dirty table! Straw wrappers, crumbs and water on the table and the paper place mats had drawings on them from the last people who sat there. I couldn't wait so I cleaned the table myself and flipped the paper place mat over. Again sat and waited while I see other customers waiting to catch their waitress for a box or more coffee. Another 10 min and finally got to order and it took almost 30 min after. I saw the manager walking passed us twice trying to figure out who's order it was when I can clearly see it was ours. This manager has no idea what was going on and barely spoke English. He had a 50/50 chance to get this right and he ended up giving me my wife's plate and she had mine! And to top it off they got our orders mixed with me and my wife's order. I ordered a club sandwich with sourdough and my wife ordered a BLT with multigrain bread. At this point we were too hungry to change the order and we didn't want to wait again so you can imagine dissecting a club sandwich with 3 layers of bread for her 2 layers of BLT....it was a mess! Ugh! Oh and the food was cold too! Also I noticed there was only 1 cook during dinner time just 1!? Like really on the busiest night!? Did the other cook call in sick!? While we ate I noticed another customer taking his kids to the bathroom and left the table empty. A bus boy came and cleared all their unfinished food and they weren't even finished yet! Wow! So they got back to an empty table and was like wtf!? I told them what happened and the bus boy had no idea so they had to remake their food and wait all over again. Our waitress did her best and apologize at least 3 times for the long wait and mixup. I couldn't wait to leave that place. After that night to top it off, me and my wife had upset stomachs!!! I hope I live long enough to write this bad review! Just wonderful! I am never going back to this location ever!

This rating is an average of a 0 star rating for speed and service, and a 4 for food. It's dennys, the food is consistent, and always decent. The service? Awful. Today our server told my roommate she had bigger arms than him. Really? She's a hot 26 year old girl. No girl ever wants to be told that! It also takes forever to get your food here. Always. And the iced tea is always gross and old. All-in-all? If you're really hungry, it will do, but you won't be super happy.

Three words - Free wi-fi, or is that two words? I called in to get my usual "Value Slam" and this place is under new management. At first they were not going to sub my French toast instead of the two pancakes. I explained to Cheryl, the manager that I needed to watch the waistline, and I don't want to eat two pancakes. I mean if you put them in front of me they will disappear because I am gluttonous like that, but knowing where I will be weak allows me to be strong!!! She said come on through, and she had the placed decked out. It was weird, she came in the back and talked to me and explained the new policies, and that the customer was first. It was very touching that this women even cared about my silly piece of French toast, but she did. Needless to say, I'm a fan. Mid-day air conditioned, wi-fi and a nice breakfast for lunch, it's my little Denny's alternate universe. Ah, the little things in life ;-)

Despite being within walking distance I now choose to go to other Denny's for my late night dinners. Literally every single time I've been there either myself or someone I overheard at the registers has a complaint about the staff and/or food. My second to last visit I ordered a build-it-yourself burger (a very plain and simple burger) which they managed to completely screw up. I had taken my food to go because I had to be at work. It wasn't until it was too late for me to go back that I saw my burger was completely wrong. I called and Antonio immediately offered to let my next burger be on the house. The following visit I told the person what Antonio had said. He needed me to look up the date of the call, which was fine since Antonio wasn't present to confirm. Instead of my free burger they offered 15% off. I saved $4 after losing out on a $12 burger completely. But I figured whatever, it's something....until I got home and looked at my food. My burger AND my boyfriend's burger were both completely wrong. His had avocado on it which he is deathly allergic to. Good thing we had looked first. I took the food back, they apologized, and offered coffee or dessert (at like, 12:30am). I don't want coffee at night. If I wanted dessert I would have ordered it. I want my burger. Since mine was only missing an ingredient the manager asked if I wanted a fresh one or just to add the missing bit. I just explained while it's a simple screw up I have to wait for them to remake my boyfriend's burger, and I don't exactly want a half hour old cold burger. The manager offered to cook everything himself to guarantee it was done right. I ended up having to ask for some of my money back because I was upset. He refunded one of the burgers. How do you mess up an order for someone you just discounted their purchase for screwing up previously...? On top of that, while waiting, one of their waitresses had the nerve to complain about her job to us while we waited. It's really poor etiquette, even off the clock, to complain to your customers, especially ones waiting for food that was screwed up. The management seems competent just extremely stressed and over worked. It seems the chefs and waiting staff need to be looked at a bit closer, maybe make things easier on those poor managers.

I was there on March 22nd with my husband for a super early breakfast and the food was fine, waitress was fine but when we were almost done with our food a small cockroach crawled out from behind the thing that holds the condiments and started walking across the table towards my husbands plate. Needless to say, we immediately abandoned our food, paid for our meal and left. We informed the hostess and she didn't seem to care. I emailed the company to tell them and the manager called me the next day and asked me to call him back. I did but he was gone for the day by the time I called and I tried again the next day and he said he was busy with a meeting and would call me back. It is now 5/8 and I've yet to hear from him. I should have just called the health inspector.

Tell me why Mama Nosh was not working today ); She would probably be one of the reasons why I would chose this Denny's over any other ones. The Everyday Value Slam is a must if youre on a budget but want to taste the whole shenanigans. Thumbs up!

Came here on Cinco de Mayo for a late dinner, after midnight. They were well-staffed here! Even though a good number of customers were here, the service was prompt, attentive, and great. Great service always makes me want to come back to a place and makes an establishment stick out in my mind. This Denny's had friendly, helpful service and is definitely going to stay a favorite late-night option for me. Had the biscuits with gravy and a side of hash browns. Only $2 for the whole shebang since it's off their $2 $4 $6 $8 Value Menu. SCORE. Tasted really really good. Filled me up and left me happy.

Had to wait forever to be seated and when talking to the hostess, who was very nice and accommodating, the general manager butted in and was very rude. Everyone else seemed to be trying to make our experience a good one despite the wait except for the gm. Overall he ruined the experience for my group and made me never want to come back to this Dennys. 7 customers lost.

Dennys is legit, I freaking love pancakes and this place has all you can eat ones, crazy. Plus They just hooked my boy up with a free grandslam on his birthday, FREAKIN legit. It's pretty much the only reason we are here and given its 10 pm on a Tuesday so I know none wants to be working here. But Yo it smells so bad in here, I just want to bury my nose in syrup so I can enjoy these fluffy cakes of pan. And it's pretty slow.

My niece had 1/2 day and I wanted to take her out so we went to Denny's. Worst Denny's ever! Sat there for about 15 minutes before anyone to acknowledge us. The food was cold and the service was horrible! Our server Shannon didn't even check up on us. My niece had to track her down twice; once to get her so we can order dessert. Second time to get a to go box. Wouldn't come here again! I rather drive to the city heights location.

I'm not impressed, the service could have been better and I've had way better food. It's not the worst choice but there are slim options for a pancake craving at 3am unless I want to drive to North Park..... Maybe next time I'll make the drive considering how long I waited to be seated. Mediocre food mixed with mediocre service means I won't come back here until my food craving is so strong it causes temporary amnesia and I no longer remember how mediocre their food is. I don't know what else to say.... It took longer than I would like to have been seated, even longer to place our order. The food came out before the water and we were nearly done with our food by the time they brought out our waters which we asked for when we were immediately seated, then again when the food came out. It's a good thing I didn't choke. Their food isn't anything special, I'd say at best it's average. And our check never came, even after we asked for it. So we had to go to the register to pay without a check and just guessed on what our total was (which was easy since we ordered from the 2-4-6-8 menu).

This location is going down the drain. I should have started a running bet with my girlfriend whenever we go, on what is going to be messed up. The wager that would win the most is one of the worst offenses a food place can do...FORGET TO BRING FOOD YOU ORDERED! Nothing is more fun than being hungry , waiting 45 minutes, then finding your food was never input in the system. This has happened multiple times with this being the most severe, normally it is just them forgetting to bring a desert, an add-on dish, or extra drink.

I could not wait to get home to my phone to write this review. I am really irritated. -server tosses our straws at us -husband ordered a milkshake which was more like watery chocolate milk, no resemblance of a consistency of a milkshake at all -when I order, (or anyone for that matter), something a specific way, it's for a reason..! -was charged $6 for a grilled cheese which was not made the way I asked. I asked for cheddar cheese because I HATE American cheese, and what do I get? A slice of American cheese, and with tomatoes inside. Also hate tomatoes. Seriously? 6 fucking dollars. -ordered a side of Mac n cheese. What do you think when you ask for Mac n cheese? The Kraft kind. But no, I get a small ramican of half cooked noodle shells with alfredo sauce. Really? I'm ordering something off the kids menu. (I even checked online before we came to see if they had Kraft, or else I wouldn't have ordered it). -the waiter goes back to the cook and YELLS very loudly "they don't want this kind. Get the YELLOW kind! The YELLOW kind!" -20 f-ing minutes later I'm handed a plate with a square block of noodles. W.T.F. Dry, rubbery tasting noodles. -sure, the waiter apologized, but before all this we tried getting his attention three times! He either has bad tunnel vision or was just deliberately ignoring us. Note*not busy at all inside. -when we check out the manager Luis asked us how everything was. "Not so good," my husband replies. He tried to ask why and apologizes but doesn't make an attempt to give us a discount or anything. For God's sake the food is still left on the table. -our server was Zheng. If you want something a certain way or want to be checked on if you need something every once in a blue moon, Zheng will not be the one providing that service. Very unsatisfactory for an easy order. $6 for a fucking grilled cheese!! God I'm so piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed right now. Really.

So I've been to this Denny's multiple times, often times during the rush hours of breakfast and dinner. The service during those visits were mediocre and this current visit, I must say, has to be the worst treatment I've gotten at a restaurant. We waited 30 mins to have our orders taken and served with water and another 30 to have our food received; and when we got our food, it was cold. To top it off our server Kyle forgot to place one of orders so our French toast came after the meal was done. I understand that restaurants get busy; but when we were seated everyone around us was already served their food so what took so long for then to serve us? Ultimately the service was so bad at this visit that it justifies the mediocrity of this Denny's branch.

After emailing Dennys on their website about my experience, I was sent a voucher for free breakfast which I used at a different Dennys. I really want to see Dennys succeed and stay around as I consider this company an American "insititution," for lack of a better world. Sort of like what Bob's Big Boy was in another life. I would also like this Alvarado location to be successful and therefore, I would try it again. The food is okay here for what I got, breakfast. We went there because we were coming back from a long hospital visit and hadn't had breakfast. Denny's is ye old standby for breakfast - iconic breakfast place, late night, stop and get dessert...etc. My complaint is that our waitress rather "under-handedly" added 3 extras to my breakfast...totaling two dollars. The two dollars is nothing really, but who wants to be duped? No one. I won't get into details here and I didn't complain to her. However, I would say that it reflects poorly on the Denny's corporation, this waitress and maybe that management at the Alvarado location. On another issue, I didn't find the service to be very good. I started to wonder if the waitress was a scatter brain or just negligent.

What a crock the employees were. Well the service was mediocre, the server did not know how to use their register. It took the lady 10 minutes to figure out how to use this elderly woman's AARP card. She even had to get the managers help, and took 5 minutes longer even after her help. Their was a line to pay, many servers, and no one willling to help ring people out. I would have hoped that denny's would enlist people who were adaptable to POS systems and different registers. This wasn't a matter of bad service technically, but rather inept training. I would rather not come here.

I recall my first bad encounter was with the server named Tomas. I went in around 2am with a group and 6-7 and everything seemed fine - food was as expected, service was okay, it seemed like every other Denny's. Then as we asked Tomas for the check, it literally took us a full hour after asking before we actually received the check. He kept walking past us without acknowledgement and it seemed that there was an issue going on in the back with his and another server and they were arguing in plain sight of all the customers. Not very professional. When we finally got his attention an hour later - and at this point we all just want to go home and sleep, and kind of wishing we hadn't even made this trip given that it took this long- he brings the check and we asked him to split it. When he came back, he had divided the checks incorrectly. He gave us a pondering look as if his mind drew a blank and couldn't recall what we each ordered. He then goes back and prints out each item on individual recipes and hands us the recipes one by one. At the cash register, we had to pay each item by itself... I decide to give it another try because I enjoy Denny's and this location is very convenient to where my apartment it - sometimes my optimistic view is the burden of me. This time I just go with one other person and once again, our server was Tomas. I really had hoped that this experience wouldn't be similar to my last. Sadly, the service was not any better; the food came out over-cooked and dry, it took us 20 minutes to ask for more water, and once again, we were just blatantly disregarded. The whole time we were there, 2-3 other parties had walked in and had gotten full service as we sat there with a confused look on our face. It seemed like he intentionally did not walk past our booth just to avoid us. At this point, I told myself that this would be the last time I come here. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra mile to the Denny's on university because from now on, that's where I will be.

This is the worst Dennys in San Diego-hands down! You are obviously considering eating here if you are reading this so let me help you out and say Marie Callendars is righ next door to this Dennys and they have slightly better food and a million times better service. I live nearby so I went here late night 3 or 4 times when I first moved into the neighborhood, but after every visit sucking a little bit more I am completely over it. 7-11 is a way better option. I'm pretty easy going about waits at restaurants, as long as the servers are actually busy and not just standing around or jumbling up the order of who they help. I used to be a server at Marie Callendars, so I know how it goes when it's a busy night and I am totally empathetic to people working at an understaffed restaurant-it's not their fault. That being said, this is the slowest, unprofessional, most ridiculous Denny's EVER. I know some people may roll their eyes at "unprofessional", because it is Dennys after all-however the way the staff talks at this place is ridiculous. The kitchen is open and right next to the tables-there is no separation except a cubicle-type wall. You can always hear the staff complaining and yelling at each other, and the last time I went here watched my food sit on the counter for about 15 minutes and then they served me cold, hard french toast. I immediately put my hand on it when the host served it to me and told him it was cold. His initial reaction was along the lines of "awww, that sucks. kind of funny though". I got pretty upset at that and he offered to make me another one, but at that point I opted to just leave. It was irritating to have invested an hour of my life there and not get food, but the disgusting looking french toast totally killed it for me. Actually last time I was there it look 20 minutes to get coffee, and 40 minutes to get that hard cold french toast! The late night staff here is absolutely terrible, with the exception of one nice older Mexican lady who doesn't belong at such a terrible restaurant. She is super sweet and I wish I could ride in on a white horse and save her from her pancake filled prison. So the service is slow, every waiter I've had there except one had been of Walmart Electronics Dept quality, the food is commonly overcooked and cold (horrible combination) and they are totally defiant about how bad their quality of customer service is. I think it must be a management issue. It baffles me that there are sooo many good workers unemployed but someone is keeping an entire restaurant full of horrible servers and slow cooks employed. Don't eat here!

Where to start. This is for a togo order . They charged me for a pancake puppy sunday I did not recieve. Not worth the $2 to drive all they way back and get it. Next no syrup for my french toast while the eggs where not to order and no cheese, which the charged for. Not worth going back. But thourgly check your order before leaving even if they do fill two bags full

So, Denny's is Denny's. I mean, it's not a place known for it's culinary cuisines. However, it is Denny's, an all time all American, go to place for comfort food that is cheap and actually pretty tasty. The place was clean, service was good, food was filling, greasy and actually pretty good. I have no complaints, but if I give Ruth Chris 5 stars, Denny's obviously has to be a 3. LOL, but, for a Denny's diner, it was good!

Good service, waited just a tad bit long to order drinks but over all service was good. It was pretty busy for a Thursday night but they were plenty staffed and were quick and efficient. I give 4 stars!

i love this denny's! i mean, its the same as every dennys in terms of the menu, but i am always here! we have this one waiter who is always so nice to us, in fact they are all really, they are all so interesting. I don't give it a five star review because sometimes the food can be a little inconsistent and it is just diner food, but im always greeted when i walk in!

MMM Oh denny's. The late night spot where people tend to go. I used to come here a lot with my cousins its not bad, I like ordering from the kids menu sometimes, they have cool items yah know? Sometimes I just want to be a kid ! nothing bad. Overall, its not a bad place, typically joint. Service is good, one lady lady likes to call their customers "baby" or "hun" or etc. its funny :)

this is our go to after a concert at SDSU. its up the 8 from the school and on the way home. wifi has made waiting for food a non issue. always see people from the same show we just went to. if youre a social person you may make some new friends while grabbing a late bite after a show. food and service is typical dennys.

We stopped here for dinner on a Tuesday night. A good waitress can turn a mediocre restaurant into a really great experience. And that's what happened here. She was prompt and cheerful. The food was great! My soup was awesome and my salad was really fresh and crisp!

Wanted breakfast for dinner, so my boyfriend and I stopped by here since it's right down the street from his house. Servers were really attentive, checked up on us quite often. My boyfriend made the comment, "I don't know what's worse, not getting any service, or getting too much service." Honestly, yes it can get quite pestering, but I'd rather have my drinks refilled than not at all. The store manager was there and he was really nice. Food was just like every other Denny's location. I was sad that they didn't have the Strawberry Cheesecake Pancake Puppies though ]: The shake was good at least!

So this is the Denny's we go to before or after going out for drinks. Clearly, they're used to drunk patrons, and they're totally cool with taking care of your drunk ass. Service is polite and speedy. One of our favorite aspects of this particular Denny's is one of the servers. I don't know her name, but she's an older, Eastern European (I think) woman who calls you and your group 'baby' or 'babies'. She is fuckin' cool, so be stoked if she serves you. Do note that if you are drunk, cops frequent this place, so make sure you have a DD!

Yeah, so for some reason, the map shows the wrong location for this place, but the address is correct. This is Denny's in the College Area. I had been here before, but never with a BAC of less than .20 and never during the daylight hrs. The last time I came here I got something that resembled a tooth in my sausage and nearly chipped my tooth. I told the waitress and got our meal free, but it hardly made up for it. I vowed to never return until... I got a call from my supervisor saying that she wanted to take us out to breakfast and that we were all meeting here. I ordered the French Toast Slam, which was edible, but def not good. The eggs were tasteless, I like some seasoning, the sausages were cold and the bacon was not very good either, pretty flavorless. The french toast kinda sucked, considering it's almost impossible to screw this one up. Never go back again.

The hubby and I used to go to Denny's all the time. We know Denny's is not a 5 star establishment, but we expected a little more than this! We went last night and before we walked in there was a woman outside with 3 trash bags of clothes and a suitcase. Pregnant. Ok, whatever. We walk inside and I want to use the restroom before we sit down, but before I can move I hear someone getting slapped in the Women's bathroom. It was echoing all through the lobby. I decide to wait. A minute later this woman walked out with her 3 kids. Not sure which got slapped. But the mother proceeded to cuss at the oldest one as they walked back to their table. Did I mention the oldest was probably 10? Anyway. The hostess is about to seat us and I am praying she doesnt put us near that family from the bathroom. Oh what do you know! Right next to them. That was fun. There was about 10 groups of people there, and it seemed like one waiter. But in reality we did not have to wait long for our food. Food was decent, like all Denny's are. I found an ant on our table and I swear I smelled Urine coming from the carpet. Eh. Other than that and a few really scary looking people eating there... Our Waiter Alberto was awesome. We tipped him well because working there must suck. He is the reason for the 2 stars instead of one. Can not say I will be eating there again soon...or ever.

TERRIBLE COOKS!!! What a waste of time and money!! I went to this Denny's on Alvarado st. a few days ago with some friends at around 10:30pm and the food and service was terrible like they weren't even trying. The place was not busy at all and yet it took forever to get waters on the table and then forever to take our orders. (Nachos, Burgers, and a slice of cake to share) Once the orders had been placed the first thing we received on the table was the slice of chocolate cake. What?? Since when do normal people eat their cake before their dinner at a restaurant?? The nachos and burgers then trickled out some time later. The nachos were a mound of sour cream with a few chips and very little other toppings discovered as we tried to extract the sour cream by the spoonfuls. The meat patties on the burgers had fallen into a little tiny pieces like they had dropped them all on the floor and then tried to piece them back together. WHO IN THE WORLD WAS COOKING BACK THERE?????

Was dragged here due to the group being hungry and nothing much else being open at 3 am. I've been to Denny's in my life, but not recently. I simply have to say, I looked through the menu and realized I could not find anything appetizing so I got what is impossible to mess up. Breakfast. It wasn't a bad breakfast but there was absolutely nothing interesting about it. It was the simple scrambled eggs, some hash browns, bacon, and sausage. My only issue is, I'm not a very good cook per say, but I think the freezer might provide tastier similar items. Go to Denny's if you like straight up fried junk food and mediocre sandwiches. Otherwise, as Paul Newman would say... "Why go out for hamburgers when you can have a steak at home?"

A suprisingly decent late evening meal. Had breakfast. Food was hot and pretty tasty. Service was ok - had to ask for silverware. Points off for all of the dust on the booth surround - obviously hadn't been cleaned in days. In general, it looked like the place could use a good, deep cleaning.

At Denny's diner, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner even on holidays and throughout the night. Denny's was initially spelled as Danny's but later it was changed to Denny's to avoid any confusion with Los Angeles based coffee chain Coffee Dan. The main USP of Denny's diner is that the diner stays open round the clock and serves food even on holidays. Today, Denny's franchise outlets are operational in 1700 locations, mainly in the United States and other parts of the world.

Denny's expanded its operations across the United States after Pilot Flying J opened Denny's at their Truck Stop locations across the United States. Tying up with Pilot Flying J helped Denny's gain exposure and popularity across the United States as one of the best diners near freeway exits. Denny's is also among the healthiest diners in the United States. It recorded the fewest health inspection violations in a Dateline NBC segment called "Dirty Dining."
